BUILDING A COMMUNITY

Not only do the individual houses of Victory Homes offer space large enough to accommodate all guests, but a Community Center separate from the houses has been provided behind the Harrison Street Community for on-site AA meetings and fellowship. We encourage social engagement and have provided a recreational area, games, and other entertainment accessible to all guests. The Community Center is the location of our weekly meetings and family meal on Sundays, from 4:00 to 6:00. Guests are encouraged to work together choosing and preparing the family meal.

GOOD NEIGHBOR POLICY

It is crucial to the long-term success of any recovering person to adopt a new set of skills for approaching a life of recovery.  One of the most important is being a part of a community and adopting certain pro-neighbor attitudes and behaviors – along the lines of “Love thy neighbor as thy self”.
You represent yourself and should do so in such a manner that you exude excellence and humility.  Be proud that you are overcoming an addiction, but humble in your attitude toward others. You represent our home. Our goal is to give guests a chance to overcome their obstacles and get set for a sober life.  We plan to be here for generations.  Think and act beyond yourself. Each guest represents recovering addicts everywhere.  The stigma of addiction remains despite decades of public education.  Although community members support recovery, people still struggle with recovery residences being in their neighborhood.  A part of our mission is to demonstrate the strength and character it takes to change for the better.

HARRISON STREET COMMUNITY FELLOWSHIP

Harrison Street Community House meetings are held every Sunday afternoon in the courtyard, followed by food and fellowship. We are recognized by the General Service Office (GSO) in communication with A.A. groups across the U.S.

Neighborhood Concerns and Victory Homes Contact Information

Contact information is available in each home’s Resource Center for neighbors who may have questions or concerns about the community. Concerns will be responded to within 48 business hours of receiving. We ask that guests hold respectful conversations with neighbors, speak when spoken to, and stay mindful of oversharing personal information. Neighborhood respect is a top priority. Guests are to respect the other homes and families in their neighborhood and could be removed from their community if misbehavior warrants. Guests are to be aware and respectful of lewd or offensive language, smoking, loitering, cleanliness of the property, and parking. Designated areas for these are documented in the home’s Resource Center.
